Phlio Waterfall is a famous tourist attractions in Chanthaburi. It’s in the area of Namtok Phlio National Park and it’s only 14 km. from Chanthaburi city.
Phlio waterfall is a big and beautiful waterfall with water flowing all year round. It consists of two streams that join together, flow through rocks and high cliffs and turn out to be a wonderful waterfall with clear water. It is a home for many kinds of fish including hundreds of Mahseer barb.
In addition, Phlio waterfall is an important historic site. Though in the old days, it was difficult to travel from Bangkok to Chanthaburi, the kings and his royal family had visited this waterfall many times. There’re signatures of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), and King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) on the large rock above the waterfall.
As Phlio waterfall was His Majesty the King Chulalongkorn’s favorite place, he made an order to build Alongkorn Chedi (Chulsirachumpoj Chedi) at the cliff area in front of Namtok Phlio. He also made an order to build Phranang Ruea Lom Pyramid, A brick pyramidal monument, as a memorial to Phra Nang Chao Sunanthakumarirat, King Rama V’s beloved queen who died in a boat accident.
You can come to visit Phlio waterfall all year round. However, in the rainy season, you should check with the natural park first because the park may close for safety reason.
