Kung Kraben Bay Royal Development Study Center is a place worth visiting when you come to Amphoe Tha Mai. It’s located on Laem Sadet Beach and is only 3 km. from the dugon roundabout of Chao Lao beach. Kraben in Thai means a stingray. The name “Kung Kraben” came from the shape of the bay that looks like a stingray.
Kung Kraben Bay Royal Development Study Center is one of the King’s Bhumibol’s projects. It’s a place for studying and researching the natural ecosystem in order to find proper ways to develop the coastal area in Chanthaburi Province. Also, the center is a place where interested people can study the condition of nature so that they can understand the ecosystem in mangrove forest and can use these resources in the most effective way.
It takes about 30 min. to 1 hour walking through a 1,600-meter forest trail. There’s a bird watching tower where you can enjoy the view of the Kung Kraben bay. From 15 October to 15 March, you can also go kayaking in the bay.
