Today I’m going to take you to Suan Ma-Maung Market in Amphoe Muang, Chanthaburi. Ma-muang in Thai means mango and Suan means garden. The market’s name came from the name of Wat Suan Ma-muang (Suan Ma-muang temple) which is close to the market. This market is one of the old markets in Amphoe muang.
The market opens daily. It’s crowded early in the morning and in the evening. You can find various kinds of food such as seafood, vegetables, fruits, meat, dried food, local food and Thai desserts. From outside, you may not think there’ll be a market hiding in such a small street.
Fresh seafood are sold a low price. If you come here early in the morning, you can even find live fish.
Many kinds of vegetable, including home grown vegetables and local Thai herbs are sold here.
You can find Thai fruits and imported fruits here too.
Sweet mangoes and sticky rice is one of my favorite stop.
Seasonings, salt, pepper, coconut milk, meat balls…..
Many kinds of salted fish…
Freshly fried fish…
Local food…
Thai desserts…
For me, Suan Ma-muang market is a great place to see the local life in Chanthaburi. More than that, I’m sure you will not leave this market empty handed.
