How to go to Chao Lao Beach?

With public transportation

There’s no direct public transporation from Bangkok to Chao Lao beach. You will have to start your trip from Amphoe Muang, Chanthaburi.

From Chanthaburi bus terminal in Amphoe Muang, there aren’t many choices to come to Chao Lao Beach.  You can take either a local taxi or a van to get there. The distance from Amphoe Muang to Chao Lao beach is about 30 km. If you prefer a proper taxi, you should take a taxi from Bangkok or major tourist destinations like Koh Chang or Pattaya. I once had a guest who wanted to call a taxi that can put a car seat in it. It’s impossible here unless you call a taxi from other major provinces.

As you have to put so much effort to go here, Chao Lao beach is still a paradise for those who wants to get away from crowded beaches.

  • By Local Taxi

From Chanthaburi bus terminal in Amphoe Muang, you can take an open air local taxi. The locals call it a Mazda because in the old days all local taxis are under “Mazda” brand. The taxi queue is in the front of the bus terminal. It costs about 300-400 baht per trip to go to Chao Lao Beach. It takes about 30-40 minutes to get there.

Local taxis don’t standby at Chao Lao beach. Therefore, if you want to go back to Amphoe Muang, you may have to ask the hotel reception to call a taxi for you. You can also ask for the phone number of the taxi driver so that you can call him when you want to go back to town.

A cheaper way to go to Chao Lao beach is by taking a van.

From the bus terminal to Chao Lao beach, the van departs at 8:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00.

From Chao Lao beach to the bus terminal, the van departs at 9:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00.

The van schedule may change depending on numbers of passengers. The price is 100 baht per person.

The van station is on the left side of the bus terminal, close to 7-11.

  • Renting a car and a motorbike

As there’s no public transportaion in Chao Lao beach, when you want to go from one place to another, you’ll have to call a local taxi from Amphoe Muang to take you to the destination. Therefore, if you want to see around the area, it’s a good idea to rent a car or a motorbike. The car and motorbike rental office is about 250m. from the bus terminal. You can also rent a motorbike in Chao Lao beach. The rental office is in a minimart next to the gas station, about 1.5 km. from the dugon roundabout.

With Private car

From Suvarnabhumi airport, drive on the motorway No.7, then exit the motorway at km.71. Take highway Route No.344, the Ban Bueng-Klaeng route. Turn left at the Klaeng junction to Sukumvit Road (Route no.3). Turn right at Nong Si Nga junction.

Follow the sign Laem Sadet or Chao Lao until you find the dougon roundabout.

Turn left to Chao Lao beach or Turn right to Laem Sadet beach. Total distance from Bangkok to Chao Lao beach is about 250 km.
